Data Centers & Mission-Critical Facilities.

Early, reliable fire detection for facilities that can’t afford downtime.

Data centers, cleanrooms and other mission-critical facilities can’t tolerate downtime or false alarms — fire detection here has to catch a problem before it becomes either a fire or an outage.

In a data center, detection has to be both extremely early and extremely reliable, since a false alarm can be as disruptive as a genuine one and a late detection risks the facility itself.

Fire detection in a data center typically uses aspirating smoke detection to catch the earliest signs of overheating or smoke well before a conventional detector would react. Detection is usually zoned by server hall or cabinet row, so a genuine incident can be isolated and investigated without needing to shut down an entire facility. The same ModuLaser and MiniLaser technology is available through AirSense, Kidde Commercial and Edwards.

Key Challenges

Near-zero tolerance for downtime or false alarms
Detecting overheating and smoke at the earliest possible stage
Connecting early-warning detection to the site’s fire panel
Zoning detection so one incident doesn’t shut down the whole facility

How Kidde Global Solutions Helps

The systems that protect Data Centers & Mission-Critical Facilities sites — organized by what they do, not by whose name is on them.

Fire Systems

Aspirating Smoke Detection

Purpose-built for data centers and other mission-critical rooms, catching the earliest signs of overheating or smoke before an outage.

Available through AirSense, Kidde Commercial and Edwards: the same ModuLaser and MiniLaser technology under three brands. The Kidde Commercial version fits an APIC card that puts it on the Excellence addressable loop, and the Edwards version integrates with EST4.

Frequently asked questions

What are the main fire risks in data centers?

Fire in a data center can cause downtime and data loss long before flames appear, so the warning must come at the earliest stage.

Which fire detection systems suit data centers?

Aspirating smoke detection for very early warning, connected to the addressable fire alarm system. Our team can help you specify the right solution for your project.
